Georgia Hunting Season Prep — What I Run from Tifton

Updated July 2026 · 8 min read

Spearfishing and hunting share the same offseason problem: you can't fake conditioning. This is the checklist I run before Georgia deer season when I'm not on a Forgotten Coast weekend.

Clothing layers

Boots and field gear

Fitness baseline

See the full outdoor fitness guide — minimum bar: hike 3 miles with pack, farmer carries, and stair intervals twice a week for a month before season.

Overlap with spearfishing

Hold breath fitness, cold tolerance, and meal prep on road trips all transfer. If you can handle a Steinhatchee dawn dive after a Friday drive from Tifton, you can handle a pre-dawn stand.
