Pick Steinhatchee when: you want structure diving, sheepshead season is on, and you're comfortable reading tide charts.

• Rocky bottom and ledges — gag territory when legal
• Strong tidal movement — enter at slack or know your drift
• Dive community knows spearfishing — easier to find beta
• Closest of the three from Tifton (~3 hr)

Skip when: wind stacks after outbound tide and vis drops below your comfort — have Carrabelle as backup.

Carrabelle — Forgotten Coast gateway

Pick Carrabelle when: Steinhatchee is blown out west, or you want nearshore Gulf without driving to Apalach.

• Crooked River / Gulf access — know no-dive zones
• Slightly different vis patterns than Steinhatchee
• Good launch point for exploring between towns
• ~3.5 hr from Tifton — still a Friday-after-work trip
• Offshore 100–160 ft — when vis opens (65 ft+), snapper and hogfish missions

Pick Indian Pass when: you want Gulf access west of Apalachicola with less ramp chaos.

• Corridor between Apalach and open Gulf structure
• Pairs well with a Carrabelle weekend on back-to-back trips
• Deep structure 100–160 ft when summer vis cooperates

Apalachicola — worth the extra thirty minutes

Pick Apalachicola when: you're making a long weekend, want bay + Gulf options, or species reports push west.

• Historic fishing town — lodging and ice easy
• Apalachicola Bay influence — understand freshwater mixing
• ~4 hr from Tifton — plan Friday off or early leave
• Offshore ledges 130–160 ft — when vis opens, big fish show (gag, carbo, snapper)
